Question regarding VGA and xbox

Hey allI am thinking of getting a VGA cable for my Xbox 360 and use it on my PC monitor. My friend recently did this and says it looks better on his screen so I thought it would be a cheap option to do and then I can get a bigger monitor in the future for bigger resolutions. My screen can go to 1024 by 768 maximum so is this worth the change? Also, I would need to move my 360 to the PC monitor, I would have to consider putting it on the floor so would this be suitable for the 360 to be on a carpeted floor or should I consider getting a mat to put it on (due to dust and heat etc)?Thank youQuestion regarding VGA and xbox
So wat am i suppose to post? Wats the purpose of this post with the 'thank you'?Question regarding VGA and xbox
I would try to put the xbox 360 on a box or something cause a carpet will RROD an 360 and yes its worth it,unless you have a expensive HD TV to play it on.
Sorry, I want to know two things:1). Is it worth going VGA if I can only go to 1024 by 7682). Is the carpet reasonable to place the 360 onto? or should I arrange something else as I have not left a console on the floor previously.CheersAlso, thanks Pepsi, I don't have a HD TV, its a small 12'' portable tv I use which I have had for a few years.
720p resolution is 1280x720, so if your monitor can only go up to 1024x768 then its going to have problems. Not sure if it will work and just crop the edges off the picture, or if it will just fail to display. As for where to put your 360 - depends a bit on whether it is vertical or horizontal, but putting it straight onto carpet is NOT a good idea, as it will block the ventilation holes. Given how hot the 360 can get even with good ventilation, and the RROD problem stems from overheating, placing it directly on carpet it not a good idea. If you can raise it off the ground, even by a couple of centimetres that will be enough to ensure good ventilation. If you have it horizontal you can just place an empty DVD case or two under the middle of the console to raise it up enough, without blocking any of the ventilation holes.
Ah that sounds a plan, I may see. It can run 1024 by 768 as far as I am aware as it has that on the dashboard for settings so I assumed it would show the image, is this incorrect? I don't want to get it and find there is no change in the image.
You shouldn't have any problems with the dashboard, as there are a lot of different resolution options for it when using a VGA cable. The potential problem is when you start playing a game - as this will not use the resolution set in the dashboard.I used to play using a 17'' PC monitor with a native resolution of 1280x1024. I would set the dashboard to run in 1280x1024, but when games launched they were often letterboxed - black bands across the top and bottom of the screen. This was consistent with it only displaying 1280x720 (720p) across the middle of the screen, and leaving the rest of it black.Since your monitor displays less than 1280 I don't know for certain what will happen.
Ah cool, thats a fair point. I did not realize the games were in a different definition but that makes sense due to the different options on the box (420P, 720P, 1080i etc).Maybe I will avoid doing this then, cheers for the help anyway Avenger :)
Just get a 24'' (1920x1200) LCD monitor. They usually go for $500. I have an LG 246 (discontinued as of now), and I absolutely love it. I go through VGA in 1080p.
