Halo 3 Skill System

This may be the worst system I've ever seen. For example:You play a team slayer match, get 25 kills and a k/d spread of +10. You lose by 15 kills because your teammates are absolutely horrible (they only have 5 kills). You rank down because of the loss. Has this kind of thing ever happen to you? It's happened to me, and I keep getting matched up with crappy teammates that can't play. I would do lone wolves, but that is even worse (I'd rather play pong). I hit level 40 in team slayer and there's no hope of becoming a brigadier because of all these teammates I'm getting matched up with. Another thing, the spawn points in this game are the worst I've ever seen, but that's another story...I'm sure this has been said before, but I have to say something. I'm a colonel, and there's no light at the end of the tunnel to reach 45 and hit brigadier rank. It sucks. I'm switching to COD4 as of now.Halo 3 Skill System
yeah that is kinda annoying.. but i got to skill 10 in team slayer while i was pretty damn awful at the game. like single figures in kills every match. I only play social now unless my friend is here cos he prefers ranked.Halo 3 Skill System
go look for a friend an play team doubles, or switch to team objective (CTF, assault, territories). btw COD4's ranking system is worse than halo's imo. requires no skill for XP earnings ..
It's pretty simple, you win, your ranking will go up, now it may be slowyly but it will go up.
actually, THE most annoying thing is when all your team mates quit, leaving you 4 on 1. How can you get ranked down for losing when you're 4 on 1? argh!
I agree with the 4 on 1 stuff.. little 8 year olds leaving because they don't like to lose is the most annoying thing ever!
The solution to your problem is to find skilled players to go into matchmaking with you. Don't expect to make it much farther otherwise. Halo 3 has the most brutal Skill System I have ever played. It's way harder to rank up when compared to other titles.
go look for a friend an play team doubles, or switch to team objective (CTF, assault, territories). btw COD4's ranking system is worse than halo's imo. requires no skill for XP earnings ..
COD4 doesn't pretentiously pretend that they are going to match you with ''like skilled players''. It's purely so you can unlock weapons and emblems. So, no, CoD4's is not worse and that's not an opinion.
Both systems have some serious flaws and both have their strengths and yes there has been umpteen forum posts on this subject. I am not intimately knowledgable in the Call Of Duty 4 system of ranking I do know enough to be able to answer in forums like this though. The Halo 3 one isnt perfect like I already said but it doesnt put you with crappy people. It DOES happen on occasion but not very often. the best way to get your skill up when you are fairly high is to party up you cant just jump around games and expect to be a general in a couple days. You have to have skill and be able to work as a team. I am a Colonel as well and would not mind playing with another one, add me if you want, I can only play on weekends though. Gamertag is: zerxiez
The system isn't perfect but its better than playing complete noobs all the time. If there wasn't a system you would be playing players of different skills. The game would have scores like 50-3 if the system wasn't in place. Halo 3 rewards skill by making the games competitive without being to unfair.edit:one more thing to mention is you get ranked down based on how you play not if you lose. If you lose consistently(5 in a row u rank down). A high k/d ratio won't effect the outcome that much. and if you play good it would still go back up.
Actually, the way the Halo 3 system works is if you're on the top 25% of the list, you get credit towards a rank up, if you're at the bottom 25% of the list, you lose credit, thus rank down. Everyone else gets no credit towards any direction. Obviously, the only way to be at the top 25% is to win (and be the best of the winners) and the only way to get on the bottom 25% is to lose (and be the worse of the losers).
Pants on Head Retarded Im not going to lie at times the system is pants on head retarded. For example i have been stuck at high skill level of 41 for over 130 games while winning the majority of them. In this period i have not moved either up or down. Like hello! change me already. Finally i have advanced to 42 but my first game in i get analed into a 4v1 situation and lose a rank. I somehow manage to get that rank back. Then i get booted for team killing after some chump does it first. Since when do you lose skill points when disconnectiung. It should only be exp points. It can be so annoying after destroying people for 4-5 games straight and you can not increase your high skill. Cmon bungie fix this.
It may not be perfect, but it's the best system I've ever seen. It's not uncommon to play several games in a row that are decided by five or fewer kills, which rarely happens in other games. I usually go into matchmaking with a full team of friends, so that might make a difference.
Even though it isn't perfect it is still a pretty good system because you're being paired up with people to your skill level. You might be unlucky at times and get pair up with a bunch of nooby players but if you invite a skill player friend or just happen to be get a bunch of skill players then you'll win eventually.
The spawn system in COD4 is the worst one I have ever seen. I have been spawned in front of a camping enemy, under my own air strike twice in a row, in the middle of an explosion, in the path of an RPG. I have also been spawned almost dead, looking up at the sky, out of breath so I could not run away from my spawn spot, crouching, and running.
That's why I stay in Lone Wolves.
to me it is not that accurate, i went up against people who are many levels higher them me and i beat them, then i go against a 5 and he slauteres me.
i actually prefer the cod4 system, works on the players behalf, you get your xp from how well you didinstead of halo were you can have a great game and still lose , feels like wasted timeif there was a system in between the xp system of rainbow six2 (aces) and cod4 that be interesting, based on how you kill/play and how well you do, would feel more satisfying/rewarding imo.
I play halo a lot and agree the skill system is one of the biggest flaws in the game. The system itself works to a degree but what ruins it is the cheating scumbags who feel the need to get to a high skill level and start the game again under a new gamertag. We see it all the time when matchmaking, opposing players are selected and you can see someone who is only a sergeant for instance. Look at his gamercard and he has less than 100 gamescore and what a surprise he kicks everyones arse and you cant get near him. The second biggest flaw in the game is ''quickest connection wins''. I only have around 3mb download speed and it makes it almost impossible to win against people who are on cable, Americans for instance!
ALso, how can a player have a highest skill of over 30 through only 20 or so ranked matches??
