cant do that on the xbox 360 and its all direct throught the hdmi cable there is no more ports that can be pluged from the xbox?
Did you buy the Elite or a Premium with a standard HDMI cable?
I got the normal xbox 360 with the hdmi port on the back
The absolute best way to do it if your reciever has the option is to buy an optical cable and run that out from the 360 directly to the reciever. Your reciever would need a digital optical input port to do this though. As far as outputting from the TV to the reciever that may work but you may need to change an audio output option - not on the 360 - but in the TV's system menu.
yea there is no optical cable from the xbox 360 :(
Correct you are! You should have purchased the official Microsoft HDMI cable that comes complete with a dongle that you plug into the proprietary A/V port on the back. This has both analog stereo and digital optical outputs on it for situations just like this.
